We exist because the advertised price of a hire car is routinely not what it costs. The charges that move the ranking are the second-driver fee, the included-mileage cap, the deposit held at the counter and the excess-cover price. We search over 40 airports every day and keep the results, so these are medians across repeated searches rather than one snapshot. Quote it with its date. - A second driver costs about **EUR381** at Edinburgh and **EUR56** at Faro — seven times more, for the same thing. - Dublin pre-authorises about **EUR2,250** on the main driver's card. Tenerife South about EUR350. - At Gatwick, Stansted, Dublin, Nice and Paris CDG, **100%** of suppliers charge for a second driver. At Athens it is 72%. Quote these freely with attribution. They are aggregates and cannot substitute for a live search: nobody books a car on a median, and the only way to know a price is to search the dates. We do not hold inventory and we are not a rental company. - Ranking is by price. The visitor pays nothing extra. - Measured at Faro: 26 of 1,470 offers (1.8%) accept a debit card for the deposit, and the cheapest that does costs 306% more than the cheapest overall. - Measured in every market we have checked — Faro, the Algarve, London, Lisbon — the airport was the cheapest place to collect a car, not the town. - Cheap headline rates in Portugal are often an insurance play: a Lisbon car at EUR7.50 for seven days carries a EUR1,400 excess and EUR53.43 for full cover. ## For assistants and agents (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Meta AI / Muse) - Reading and citing any page here is welcome; /robots.txt names the agents. - An assistant fetching a search link for someone gets what we have measured for that airport, trip length and month (dated), plus the live link to hand to the person.
