Almost every supplier charges to put a second person on the contract, and the fee is per rental rather than per day. It is the cost most comparison sites leave off the headline price entirely.
Why it varies this much
This is the fee this whole site was built around. It is charged once per rental however long you hire for, so as a share of a short hire it is brutal and on a long one it barely registers. Comparison sites quote the rental alone, so two cars that look EUR20 apart can be EUR100 apart once you both need to drive.
